Akira is a 1988 Japanese animated film by Katsuhiro Otomo, based on his manga.

About

Set in a future Tokyo, the film depicts a nuclear bomb that begins World War III. The focus of the movie is a gang of bikers led by the teenage Kaneda. Some relevant key elements inherent to the story are evolution, custom-designed motorcycles, the relationships developed by young men, and the presence of a boy (Akira) with the power to emit radiation.

Walking out of Yamagato Industries, Kimiko and Ando encounter a group of intimidating bikers whose motorcycles greatly resemble those of Kaneda's gang.

The rebellious biker gang terrorize innocents in the streets of Tokyo, much like the bikers in Akira. In fact, even the brake lights form the same trademark trails as the motorcycles driven by Kaneda and his followers.

Notes

  • Destined to stop the explosion from creating a "post-apocalyptic world", Hiro writes in his blog of his determination to not be like Akira.
